ABOUT THE PROJECT

DURATION

The time from the past to the present

Concept

Everything changes over time, including music. In the modern era, music has changed a lot and this reflects changes in culture and philosophies of art.We can see these changes clearly when music from different eras is played side by side. This recital will offer music from the Romantic and Modern eras for the clarinet. It was in the Romantic era that composers started writing solo works for clarinet. In the modern era, many more songs were written for the clarinet by contemporary composers. To demonstrate how music has changed over time, the show will start with Clarinet Sonata in Eb Major by the French composer Camille Saint-Saëns,  written in 1921., The next two pieces are by the modern composers Béla Kovács and Russell Peterson. Bela Kovacs is a Hungarians clarinetist. He has written many pieces for solo clarinet. I will play a piece from his collection called “Hommages.” The last piece I will present is a composition for chamber ensemble by the American composer Russell Peterson. Both Kovács and Peterson are still alive today.
